I roll my eyes at your doggie ice creams.

But it's the first time in a long time I'm a tiny bit sad to not have a dog in my life for which to buy such things.

Saturday, July 28, 2007

I'm camped out here for the rest of the week working on school stuff. . .

I love that the letters are wearing off of the keyboard.

I finished all the assigned readings for the semester today. . . I set a timer and make Xs each time I do a session of reading. If I do only a part of a session --it's a checkmark. That's a list of upcoming to-dos at the left.

I also accidentally saw (for the first time in a long time.) my friend Matt who I look up to a lot. When he asked how I am I told him the whole truth.

Saw this on a car today.
I went to Costco today --alone. My husband was working. Even if he stresses me out and makes me rush (I'm a dawdler.) and I end up fighting him a lot of the time when we go --I missed him.

My husband wasn't feeling well and today was stressful.

But my twinkie cookbook came in at the library and things are turning around. . .

My husband came home early! tonight and we hung out and ate snacks and watched VH1's Top 40 Metal Songs. That's his world. He tells me about each band and song and about the histories with his concert stories sprinkled in. Lots of fun.

Also I finally went in and replaced my license that I haven't been able to find since this past Friday the 13th. Worst Friday the 13th of my life. They all saved up for one shot. Cost 21 bucks! I'll probably find it tomorrow. I had to add ten pounds to my physical description to keep it honest and was still lying. I like to think of it as positive visualization, what I hope will be. . .

Monday, July 23, 2007

I filed some paperwork with school today. I was overwhelmed by it but once I went through it step-by-step things fell into place.

I feel good getting it done and sent.

Sunday, July 22, 2007

At his funeral someone said that our friend Nick was crazy nuts for Elvis, which I didn't know. He also had a mischievous sense of humor. Even dying on his hospital bed he was still cracking jokes last time I saw him.

So when I saw the hilarious Elvis king-sized banana Reese's peanut butter cups while returning my lipsticks today I felt like Nick was looking down. :)

P.S. I bought another watermelon with my lipsticks money. . .

Saturday, July 21, 2007

I didn't know what to buy with birthday money (frustrating!) so it all went to normal stuff --except like 4 watermelons. . .

Until I found --12 hour lipstick. I thought it'd be good since I hardly wear lipstick but when I do it always fades pretty fast.

Except it makes my lips sticky and puckered. For like 12 hours. . .

I'm going to bed early tonight (for me).

I'm deciding not to feel guilty for not studying today.

Thursday, July 19, 2007

-Finished the archery book.

-Started a few pages of the Basho. Good stuff. I didn't use to like Asian poetry or music or paintings and now I kinda do.

My ex-best friend --best friend in California, anyway, called me today and we talked for the first time in nine months.

It was good. But I need some bunny cuddles (Here are some from the fair a few weeks ago.).

I'm in the middle of reading this for school.

Finished this book today.

My husband gave me birthday money today.
!!!

But. . . He says I have to spend it on me.

No g
iving money to "feed orphans in Africa or someplace."
No buying something to send to Odd Todd of http://oddtodd.com/
No getting gifts for people with the money.
No making something from people with supplies bought with the money.
No dvds or books that I later give away.

It shouldn't be, but this is (extremely) hard for me.

He really knows me. :)

Sunday July 15, 2007

My husband had to work this weekend, so we did my birthday dinner today with our friend Ruth. She's like family.

Ruth is blind. I didn't describe well enough the dimensions to climb into the booth and almost didn't catch her when she missed it completely. She was courteous and nice about it. I feel eternally horrible.

She was the first woman bank officer ever back in the '60s in San Francisco when she could see and has fantastic stories about her life.

I wore the perfume Jen gave me! The peonies. I love them both and had a
really hard time choosing which one to wear. . .

*Happy Birthday to me!

Cold Stone gives free! ice cream! coupons online for your birthday :)
(Behind the coupon in the photo are my three favorite cookbooks: Dad's Own Cookbook, Best Recipe and our friend Tony Gemignani and Diane Morgan's Pizza book. )

THE perfect birthday video was on very first thing this morning:

*The weirdest thing just happened!
Tonight I'm cleaning off the last bits of egg from my car from photoblog of the other day (grr.). I'm parked on the street in front of my house. A car pulls up. I think it's my neighbor and that I should be polite. I look up.

A guy walks towards where I'm sitting and points a piece of paper at me. It has an address . He doesn't speak English. My heart softens. I make a few gestures he seems to understand and take his address in to get directions online (I heart yahoo maps). Outside I show him but he still doesn't seem to understand where he's going.

We're looking at a map and my directions and I'm gesturing big at all the streets. Two funky grey-haired ladies in a grey jeep pull up, "What are you looking for?" They offer to have him follow them. They take my directions and off they go :)

Here I am soaking my egg-crusted car today (from last night, apparently).

Today I got this book from my mom.

A few years ago she got to meet and go to the home of Wally Amos --who I like a lot (from what I've heard). He started a cookie company ("Famous Amos"). Little by little he got secretly bought out of his company. They went to court. He lost. He lost everything. He was told he couldn't use his own name anymore to sell his cookies. He started a company called "NoName Cookies."

After all of that --he has an incredibly optimistic and warm attitude about living life.

Wednesday, July 11, 2007 It's my birthday week!

This week I got some of the most touching presents. Thanks again.

From the person who is always telling me about these incredible things that she cooks -- and to get something made by her is really nice , there were homemade apricot preserves (It was incredible. I had them on a toasted bagette with butter. . . Notice half-full jar.)--from her own tree!

She also personally selected some perfumes for me. This girl collects perfumes and it's quite something to be given some by her that she picked with me in mind.

I'm really excited to wear the perfume on my birthday Saturday :)
P.S. I got some nice cards and gifts from other people too. . .

This didn't turn out very well but it's the best of the bunch.

I absolutely adore my library ex-co-worker friends and that they write me messages on books I put on hold. Not every library does that for me. . .

It says, "Happy [early] Birthday to Pretty Little Maia!"

Monday, July 9, 2007

Tonight I came home to the lovely and comforting aroma of my husband's homemade tomato sauce!

Sunday, July 8, 2007

She doesn't know it yet (except if she's reading this she does now. . .), but as of tonight I'm writing my final paper for my religion class on my meditation class and teacher (also my friend) Susan who wrote this book.

Saturday, July 7, 2007

Worked again today. It's fun and very nice to get to laugh with my co-worker friends again. Record-breakingly busy. As always.

Here is a little frog prince up in the rafters. . .

Friday, July 6, 2007

I went to the politically correct Oakland tonight.
There is no "s" in Immigrant. It's a band. Listen to it. Duh.

Thursday, July 5, 2007

I stopped in to help out at my old job tonight (I'm officially "on call" but have been too busy to come in until now.).

They have yearly themes for the summer reading program --"space" was last year's theme. This year is --um, medieval dragonlets? I can almost hear this guy talking to me about stuff.

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

My husband likes twisting wicks together. . .

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

Tuesday, July 3, 2007

I finally had time to file a report at the police station today (credit card stolen online on Mother's Day weekend).

I chickened out on asking for advice on stalkers. . .

Monday, July 2, 2007

I didn't have far to go tonight --so I walked.

I grew up in snowy weather and am still always amazed at the beautiful roses everywhere all the time here.

Went to the fair today to see our amazing friend Tony do his thing.

P.S. I absolutely love the fair.

*P.S.S.
I got mad people were being rude and leaving before he was even done with his cooking demonstration. . . Then my husband reminded me Tony had hinted there would be free samples in the back. . .

Tony's still up on stage talking and the crowd stampedes to the free samples booth. . .
