yesterday sucked.
this song helped.

I took an essay writing assessment test today for school after having the paperwork for it for years. I kept forgetting or missing the deadline for one reason or another. Plus --I've been nervous about taking it.
I liked the guy who turned out to be my proctor to take the exam. I wanted to take his picture for my photo blog with a little caption underneath, "This is Peter. He is my proctor for my writing placement exam today." But I felt weird about asking and explaining why I'd want to take his picture. He was extremely formal and foreign but I couldn't place his accent. He was also kind of quirky.
When I went to find him after I finished he was eating a sleeve of string cheese. Then when we were filing out paperwork at the end he kept jumping over his chair every time he got something from his desk. But he stood up when I did and shook my hand as I got up to leave.

I wondered why I took two pictures for Monday's pic o' the day. Turns out, my husband needs the camera. So here's Monday's second picture for Tuesday's slot.
I was in a parking lot and some people were looking straight up. This doesn't happen much as there are no tall buildings or anything. . .

They all blend into the streetlamp. It's a little community meet and greet.

A friend's daughter was arrested Friday picking up her boyfriend at Logan Airport wearing a t-shirt with a circuit board on it. She had made it for orientation day at M.I.T., in reflection of her major --electronic engineering. I bought a paper to take my photo of the day of the article but I didn't see it. The guy on the right kinda reminded me of Odd Todd. A sign of things to come in the way of newsworthy items for him, perhaps? :)

might've gotten a better picture but I was hungry. . .
Good Eats had a show on constructing sammiches (put all the mushy stuff together right on the bread, stick loose pieces to the mush, make layers over the loose pieces, lettuces in the middle, stuff like that.). It worked! It stayed together really nicely .
Happy Birthday to Amber (who gave me the idea for this photo blog!) and to Odd Todd (who connected me to Amber).

These are all on hold for me. I feel a little like a traitor when I go to other libraries (i.e. any library other than the one where I used to work/has me on call).
I like this song.

Today has that chill in the air of Fall for the first time.
Out to eat I bump into a work friend and her son walking their dog outside of her daughter's Indian dance class. I don't think to take a picture.
Later there is a great shot of my husband at Target playing with the Halloween toys. This one is a dog skeleton that says stuff when you press a button, "Now I can eat all the anti-freeze I want. Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha." I don't have my camera and he isn't keen on my going to the car to get it. . .

Post 100! Tuesday, September 18, 2001
I drink green stuff in the mornings now. Tony Robbins is one of the most energetic people on the planet, I would say. He suggests it for having more energy in your life, "A green drink. Any green drink will do." I think it might be working. . .P.S. I love breakup songs. I collect them. This one's a beaut. I just heard it for the first time today.

Cliff divers of Acapulco Going retro again. This was in Mexico a few years ago. Our cabdriver was friends with the cliff divers since childhood and my husband threw me in the shot. Reluctantly. I'm happy with it, though. Off screen is a swarm of drunken college students. . . I got home from this trip to learn that my favorite person at work had been fired while I was gone (and I've never quite been the same.).
P.S. Today was awesome. I got more done today than I have in months.

Tonight my grocery store is red instead of --blue?! I've landed on Mars. Everything is still in the same place. This is comforting.
Then I slowly notice one thing. New store = new staff.
I'll never see any of those people again and didn't know it --but they did. Did they look sad the last time I saw them? I think they did. . . I'm even a little sad to not see the creepy stock guys again.
I would've said thank you for the times I was an obnoxiously dense customer and needed help with finding something or figuring out the self-checkout or whatever.
P.S. "Don't let me down."
Song of the Day.

I'm wrestling French Revolution minutia hoping more and more will stick if I just keep reading. . .hey doc, an incomplete version of my favorite track of Guerro on Utube. I have trouble finding the actual video to it or links to just the song by itself. . . http://youtube.com/watch?v=O_J4YL9JQ6w

Today I caught my dad using a monocle from a cord around his neck. When I asked about it, he said he'd had it specially made for his eyes (He asked his eye doctor if he could make him one to his prescription --who said no one ever had asked for a monocle. If people knew they could, I bet a lot more would. That'd be hell for moms, though I bet. Every six-year-old who needs glasses would want a monocle instead.). He can hold it on his face at his eye with no hands --old-fashionedlike. Here he's holding my mom's beautifully colored plate from the buffet. She's an artist, but maybe that's obvious.
After we left the restaurant my dad wanted to find some temporary tattoos. Just because. So we went to a store that sells them in a gumball machine. But it was broken.
So then we went to the Asian Mega Grocery Store that just opened by my house. The place was packed. The background music was Feelings and Let it Be and an ABBA song I couldn't place, all played on Chinese instruments. . .

My parents are here. Here's my dad. "This isn't what I expected it to be. . . when I ordered my salad. . . "Today it was the four of us. We tried on leathers and assorted silver Mont Blanc and Oakleys -- sniffed perfumes and French soaps. I goaded my mom into getting powdered at the Bare Minerals makeup counter. Then after their nappings I taught my parents to use the self checkout for their bananas and nectarines.

My meditation teacher flew in from Hawaii and gave a talk at the local East West Bookstore today. It's been a few years since we've seen each other. She's like family. My husband and I got to pick her up and go to an upscale Italian place after. The Godfather theme is literally playing in the background. As always, my husband is saying something that cracks me up as he takes the picture. . .
I like the room in the back of the store where she gave the talk. There are little water fountains and the sound is really nice (at the right). All the things in the room have little price tags on them. . .
